MetOp Second Generation

Building on the first series of MetOp weather satellites, the MetOp Second Generation mission comprises three pairs of satellites to secure essential data from polar orbit for weather forecasting through the decades beyond 2020. The image depicts the A-type satellite, which also carries the Copernicus Sentinel-5 instrument, on the right and the B-type on the left.

The A-type and a B-type satellite that carry a different, but complementary, suite of remarkable instruments. The package totals ten different instruments across both satellites, some of which are based on the sound heritage of the first MetOp series, and some of which are completely new.
