On 12 August 2026, Europe saw the Moon cover the Sun, giving observers the chance to witness a rare total solar eclipse - and at ESA’s Cebreros ground station near Madrid, Spain, we got to see it too!
Cebreros is one of ESA’s gateways to space. As part of the Estrack network, ESA’s global system of ground stations that communicates with spacecraft, the station receives scientific data and transmits commands across the Solar System using its 35 m antenna.
