ELOPE: Celebrating a Successful Challenge!

ESA’s Advanced Concepts Team (ACT), in collaboration with the University of Adelaide and TU Delft, proudly announces the successful conclusion of the ELOPE challenge on the Kelvins platform.

Running from May 20th to August 31st, 2025, the competition attracted 44 registered teams, with 21 making it to the final leaderboard after submitting 132 solutions. The challenge centered on reconstructing a lunar lander’s descent trajectory using only asynchronous event data, without images or GPS, pushing the boundaries of event-based vision for space exploration.

The ELOPE competition concluded with winner SOMIS-LAB, silver for Team HRI and bronze for LUNARIS! All the three of them showcased exceptional skill and innovation.

We congratulate the winners and all the teams who participated in this demanding challenge, which sparked exciting advances in lunar exploration technology and brought together a passionate community of researchers and enthusiasts.
