Mattia Li Vigni

Ciao!
I'm Mattia, and I joined the Advanced Concepts Team in May 2026 as an intern in trajectory design around black holes. During my three-month internship, I will apply astrodynamics and optimal control theory tools to general relativity problems, aiming to better understand the complex dynamics of a spacecraft orbiting a black hole. Who knows, maybe we’ll end up making Interstellar 2!
I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Torino, where I also earned my Bachelor’s degree in the same field. During my Master’s, I spent a semester abroad at Iowa State University in the United States, focusing on astrodynamics and working as a research assistant on Unscented Kalman Filter applications for relative orbit determination in satellite constellations. Prior to that, I worked for one year as a research assistant within a research group at Politecnico di Torino, focusing on tethered satellite systems and hardware-in-the-loop simulations.
Outside of work and school, I enjoy spending my free time outdoors in nature with friends. I’m also both a sports player and fan, especially football, but also basketball and volleyball, and, depending on the season, I enjoy snowboarding and sailing as well. When I’m at home, I like cooking, reading, or watching anime.
