Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition

Each year ECSL organises, together with the International Institute of Space Law (IISL), the European Round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition. Regional winners from Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the United States then compete in the world finals, held in conjunction with the annual International Astronautical Congress.

The final of the Lachs Moot Court Competition has the distinction of being judged by three sitting judges of the International Court of Justice. To participate in the competition, all that is needed is two or three law students interested in expanding their knowledge of space law and gaining valuable international experience.

Further information on the competition can be found on the IISL website

Outcome of the Regional Rounds 2014
The ECSL wishes to congratulate all teams that took part in the European Regional Rounds in Wrolcaw. The judges were pleased to see so many new entrants to the Moot Court competing alongside teams with an established history of appearing in the European Rounds. The standard was, as ever, very high especially in the semi-finals and final this year and the judges were faced with a series of difficult decisions to make. However, special congratulations must go to the team from Université Paris Sud who emerged European Champions in 2014 and will go on to represent Europe at the World Finals at the IAC in Toronto in October.

The ECSL also wishes to thank the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of Wroclaw University for hosting this year’s European Rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court.
