BSCC provides:
- Engineering guides,
- coding standards,
- a Ground Segment tailoring of ECSS for ESOC (SETG),
- and documents that put the software standards in context of the ISO standards.
Transition to ECSS software standards
In June 1994, the ESA Council adopted resolution ESA/C/CXIII/Res 1 (Final), confirming the Agency’s commitment to the transfer of the PSS system of ESA space standards to the new set of standards prepared by the European Cooperation for Space Standardisation (ECSS).
ECSS-E-40 is the ECSS standard for software engineering and ECSS-Q-80 is the ECSS standard for software Product Assurance.
They are both based on ISO/IEC 12207.
ECSS-E-40 and ECSS-Q-80 are applicable for the software activities of ESA projects. It is not required to apply ECSS-E-40 retroactively to projects already using ESA PSS-05-0.

Note: The "Guide to applying the ESA standards to small software projects" has no equivalence in ECSS, as the ECSS standards are intended to be tailored to the need of each project, be it "small". Advise for tailoring can be obtained
from the BSSC: bssc at esa dot int.
