This spring, the European Space Agency (ESA) commemorate a landmark achievement: half a century of innovation, exploration, and collaboration.

The festivities took place at the agency’s technical hub, ESTEC, located in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. A standout moment of this anniversary was ESA’s involvement in the renowned Bloemencorso Bollenstreek Flower Parade, where an impressive floral depiction of Ariane 6 captivated countless spectators lining the procession route.

Beyond its celebratory nature, this event underscored five decades of profound connections between ESA and the local community. Since 1975, ESTEC has flourished alongside the region, nurturing innovation, research, and economic development, all whilst remaining intrinsically linked to its environment. This synergy unfolded against the breathtaking scenery of Dutch tulip fields, now synonymous with spring and rebirth. This celebration provided an ideal occasion to acknowledge all who contribute to our work.

Particular appreciation is extended to our valued partners – the Municipality of Noordwijk, the Province of South Holland, and the Government of the Netherlands – for their unwavering dedication to space, science, and international collaboration. We are also deeply thankful to the numerous volunteers and local organisations, including NL Space Campus, Space Expo, the Netherlands Space Office (NSO), and the ESTEC community. Their creativity, commitment, and enthusiasm were instrumental in bringing our spectacular floral Ariane 6 to fruition.
