About ESA’s IT Department

The ESA IT Department is at the forefront of the digital revolution that is taking place in the Agency. The ambition of the Agency is to be able to digitally map the Earth and universe as well as the organisation. This requires a change in culture, the right tools and specialised capabilities. The IT Department is overhauling all its services to achieve these goals and the Agency is supporting it by providing it with its trust and the authority to implement these changes.

It is not only about introducing new collaboration tools or automating processes, but also about supporting change in our space business.

  • We are delivering new tools to improve the capabilities to share in real time and to collaborate remotely, even for those activities that were previously only performed with physical proximity
  • We are streamlining our underlying platforms to provide a faster response to the organisation’s needs and higher resilience to adverse conditions
  • We are overhauling our capabilities and processes to ensure we can develop and maintain applications that support our workforce in their daily job.

We are not doing this alone; we are partnering with the wider communities of our IT colleagues around the Agency to leverage our combined strengths and to better understand how we can contribute to address the challenges that the organisation is facing.

The ESA IT Department’s mission

Our IT Department operates across all ESA establishments connecting sites and people around the world, providing them with a digital workplace, computing power, storage, cloud services and applications in order to perform their job in a secure way wherever they are working from.

Our mission is to:

  • Provide and operate the most flexible and performing ESA corporate ICT infrastructure, leveraging the most effective technologies on the market to support development teams in delivering scalable and reliable software systems, bridging the gap between infrastructure, app development and security through DevSecOps and Infrastructure as Code, combined with multi-cloud.
