ESA / About Us / ESRIN

What do space explorers and Pokémon trainers have in common? Curiosity, a spirit of adventure and a desire to discover what lies beyond the horizon. And in a few days' time, the horizon around our Frascati headquarters will also be transformed into a hunting ground in search of cute virtual creatures!

From 5 to 9 October 2026, ESA ESRIN – the European Space Agency's (ESA) centre dedicated to Earth observation – will become a hunting ground for Pokémon GO trainers. The initiative stems from an official partnership between ESA and The Pokémon Company International (TPCI) and forms part of World Space Week, the global week dedicated to space science and technology.

Pokémon GO enthusiasts will be invited to embark on a real research mission: spotting Pokémon in the areas around ESA ESRIN, amongst the places that are the daily workplace for those working in the space sector.

Throughout the week, guided tours led by one of our experts will be organised. Along the way, participants will discover the role of ESA ESRIN, the satellites that observe our planet and the technologies that enable us to monitor the climate, oceans and land, all whilst continuing to hunt for Pokémon.

Below are the dates and times of the tours:

  • Monday 5 October at 3.00 pm and 4.00 pm
  • Tuesday 6 October at 3.00 pm and 4.00 pm
  • Wednesday 7 October at 3.00 pm and 4.00 pm
  • Thursday 8 October at 3.00 pm and 4.00 pm
