Ground Segment
The GMES ground segment definition activities are the consequent next step in implementing the Oxygen principles.
The main activities are as follows:
Interfaces,
Standardisation,
Implementation
- Establish, in cooperation with EC, interfaces to other data holdings for thematic supply of regional data.
- Harmonise urgently with ongoing developments and design for national mission ground segments, to exploit synergies (data, products and services) across missions for enhanced and coherent data exploitation by users, applying the interoperability standards.
- Enlarge and improve EO data supply in co-operation with other mission operators for easy access to maximum number of EO missions/data sources.
- Definition and implementation of the ground segment elements standards, covering components and interfaces enabling plug-in it use in cooperation with industry.
- Data distribution and products harmonisation and standardisation across missions to facilitate and enhance value-adding.
Improvements and evolution of existing ground segment infrastructure capabilities
Further consolidation and enhancement of on line users access and operational services enabling infrastructure;
Extend the conversion of existing ESA and national EO data holdings to improve remote access Infrastructure evolution towards an early implementation of a GMES ground segment backbone;
- Review mission specific requirements and draft the evolution plan for the multi-mission ground segment to cope with the sentinel-1 and sentinel 2 requirements
Modelling and Prototyping
Multiple constellations mission management and operations (mission planning, risk analysis, NRT and non-NRT services etc.) including coordination/interoperations with national missions;
Setup of prototypes to enable multiple data sources services;
- Prototyping of generic GMES elements, in particular for use in and integration with national missions
