The MSG satellites are built by a truly European consortium, taking advantage of the expertise built up by ESA over the past decades, within its Member States, and on the extensive heritage of Meteosat and other European satellites.

Prime Contractor:

ALCATEL Espace, France
Formerly Aerospatiale, this company has been in charge of first generation Meteosat system engineering and satellite AIT (Assembly Integration & Tests) for about 30 years.

Major contractors:

Alenia Spazio, Italy
In charge of the MSG communications package, this company was responsible for such subsystems for the first generation satellites.

DASA, Germany
In charge of the AOCS-UPS-EPS, this company has direct experience from Meteosat relevant for the MSG solar generator and from another spinning spacecraft for the UPS.

Matra Marconi Space (MMS), France
This company, which designed and manufactured the Meteosat first-generation optical instrument, is in charge of SEVIRI engineering and AIT, with DASA as sub-contractor.

More than fifty companies from thirteen ESA Member States are involved in the development and construction of the MSG prototype:
