Vigil’s plasma analyser

A senior technician at University College London’s Mullard Space Science Laboratory (MSSL) examines the Plasma Analyser instrument for ESA’s Sun-observing Vigil spacecraft. At its location 150 million kilometres from Earth in 2031, the instrument will measure particles in the solar wind to work out their density, speed, and temperature, crucial for predicting the arrival of solar storms at Earth.
