Smoke from wildfires in Bolivia, September 2024

This Copernicus Sentinel-3 image shows smoke from fires in Bolivia, acquired on 1 September 2024.

Emissions from wildfires was the subject of a paper recently published in Geophysical Research Letters. The results of the study suggest that current scientific methods significantly underestimate carbon emissions, with actual carbon output potentially between 1.5 and three times higher.
