Los Angeles stricken with wildfires

Thousands of homes and some 31 lives were lost during the wildfires that struck Los Angeles in January 2025 – the largest of which were the Palisades and the Eaton fires. This Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellite image, acquired on 9 January, shows the Palisades fire at lower left and the Eaton fire at upper right, with smoke seen reaching Catalina Island to the south.
