Cloud computing is the delivery of computed resources, including applications and data centres, over the internet.
The growing demand for Earth Observation data, for social benefits and as a driving mechanism for the industrial sector, has resulted in the need for quicker and easier ways to access data.
Cloud computing services such as Amazon Web Services, and platforms such as Google Earth Engine, are able to store petabytes of data, enabling users to access data on demand from any computer, which just a few years ago was not possible.
