The Exploration Company is developing Storm, a full-flow staged combustion engine. This video shows elements of the pre-burner hot-fire test campaign at German Aerospace Center, DLR, facilities in Lampholdshausen, Germany.
Ten hot-fire tests on the DLR P8 test bench were conducted using The Exploration Company’s subscale pre-burner demonstrator, for Storm’s full-flow staged combustion cycle. The test campaign accumulated 588 seconds of oxygen-rich hot-fire testing, with individual runs exceeding 100 seconds.
The results demonstrated stable combustion, validated injector design models, verified the system's performance beyond nominal operating conditions and provided engineering data to support Storm's continued development.
The test campaign was conducted within a contract from the European Space Agency, as part of the Technologies for High-thrust Re-Usable Space Transportation initiative, ‘Thrust!’.
