Description of the Cansat secondary mission:

The goal is to determine the nature of the surface on which the CanSat lands and detect possible seismic activity. To determine the hardness of the surface the team will compare the graph produced by the accelerometer data at impact to graphs that they have already got from repeated drops of the can onto tarmac, sand and soft soil. Seismic activity can also be determined from accelerometer data as it lies on the ground after impact. The students have jumped on the ground near the can and seen that the accelerometer detects the movement. The objective of the soft landing system is to protect the can and instrumentation on board.
