In brief

The Orbit Your Thesis! (OYT!) programme from ESA Academy offers bachelors, masters, and PhD students the opportunity to design, build, test, and operate their own experiment aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The experiment is to operate within the ICECubes facility in the Columbus module, where it can operate for upwards of four months in microgravity.

In-depth

The ESA Education Office has opened a call for proposals for student teams from eligible countries to submit orbityourthesis [at] esa.int before the deadline. ESA Education Office, in partnership with Space Application Services will review the applications before shortlisting the teams, and the final selection. More information can be found regarding the required documents, and the process itself through the links provided here.

Status:  CLOSED
Deadline:  15 January, 2022 23:59 CET

Throughout the OYT! programme participating students develop important scientific, academic and professional skills that will help them develop their future careers. These skills include project management, risk identification & mitigation, problem solving, and working within a diverse workplace. Participating teams will experience first-hand the project management process for space missions and participate in multiple reviews of their experimental design throughout the programme.

Students are supported and guided through the process by engineers and scientists from ESA, Space Applications Services, and members of the European Low Gravity Research Association (ELGRA). The ESA Education Office also provides financial support to cover, in part, the cost of the travel and accommodation during workshops and test campaigns.
