A new ESA article on exoplanets is featured in a special edition of the EIROforum’s Science in School magazine. The special issue is focused on light, marking the International Day of Light in May this year.

As mentioned in the editorial article of this special edition of the Science in School magazine:
“On 16 May we’re celebrating the International Day of Light. Light is omnipresent in our lives. We are so used to it, we often forget how essential it is to our existence. There would be no life on Earth if it wasn’t for the warming rays of light shining on us from our Sun. We wouldn’t see any colours if it wasn’t for the different energies with which light reaches our world and the ways it is diffracted, reflected, or scattered.”

The theme of this issue explores how light is much more than what is visible, highlighting its diverse properties and applications across science and technology, including space!

The ESA ‘Teach’ article on detecting exoplanets using light, "Are we alone? Exoplanets may hold the answers", is designed to help teachers in introducing the mysteries of planets beyond our Solar System into their classrooms with maths, physics and scientific experimentation, while encouraging them to explore the available materials.

The Science in School magazine is a leading resource for science teachers and educators across Europe, offering classroom experiments, teaching materials, and up-to-date information on cutting-edge science and its real-world applications. The online publication provides easy access to articles, worksheets, videos and links to related resources, making it a great platform for teachers and educators.

Science in School is funded and published by EIROforum, a collaboration of eight major European intergovernmental research organisations: CERN, EMBL, ESA, ESO, ESRF, EUROfusion, European XFEL, and ILL. The mission of EIROforum is to combine the resources, facilities, and expertise of its member organisations to support European science in reaching its full potential. This includes working closely with teachers and students to communicate the importance of science to a wide audience and inspire them.
