The SMCS116SpW is an upgrade to the Atmel T7906E device and is now fully compliant to the SpaceWire standard. The device was developed for nodes which need a small communication controller and it is designed to connect peripheral sub-systems to a SpaceWire network. It has one SpaceWire interface with up to 200 Mbit/s data transmit rate and a variety of other input/output facilities including: a host interface for configuring the device, ADC and DAC interfaces, FIFO interface, memory interface, UART interface, and a general purpose digital interface.

Features of the SMCS116SpW:

  • One SpW interface (200Mbps)
  • ADC/DAC I/F
  • FIFO I/F
  • SRAM I/F
  • Host I/F towards microprocessors.
  • General Purpose I/O lines
  • Parallel interfaces can be configured to 8 or 16 bits
  • Checksum can be generated or checked at packet level
  • Additional interfaces for data communication
  • New protocol (STUP: Serial Transfer Universal Protocol) for remote configuration
  • Supports 3V and 5V operation
  • Typical power consumption at 5V is 0.7W

ASIC technology and Package

The SMCS116SpW is implemented as an ASIC (AT7912F) in the Atmel MG2RT 0.5 µm CMOS process technology with a radiation tolerance tested up to 50 Krad and a latch-up threshold up to 80 MeV/mg/cm2. The package is a 100 pin MQFPF.
