ESA’s Space Innovation Platform (OSIP) is a streamlined point-of-entry for novel ideas to ESA, responding to specific problems and through open call on ideas.esa.int. OSIP offers you the opportunity to share your ideas and join a community of space enthusiasts.

Anyone can submit ideas to OSIP and change the future of space research, technology, and applications. The platform supports individuals who wish to contribute to European space research and interact with space industry experts. It also encourages ideas from legal entities interested in interacting with ESA and gaining funding or support for new research activities.

GSTP has three OSIP channels dedicated to:

  • [De-risk] GSTP Element 1 "Develop" Call for Proposals - Assessments to prepare and de-risk technology developments framework. The assessment will help evaluate the potential added value and to address critical issues. The results are intended to be used to help orient and adapt the follow-on development activity with respect to various aspects (i.e. technical, implementation, cost…)
  • [Building Blocks] - GSTP Element 1 "Develop" Call for Proposal - Preparing enabling space technologies and building blocks for space related systems and the associated sub-systems. Enable the targeted and coordinated development of the capabilities and building blocks (i.e. among academia and industry) in a given ESA Member State or across different Member States (in a collaborative manner). The results are intended to provide industry with a stronger foundation (i.e. building on this acquired know-how) in order to contribute to new space related system opportunities at national or international levels (institutional, commercial…).
  • Market Oriented Activities - GSTP Element 2 "MAKE" - addresses industry driven, co-funded activities, enabling the development of technologies and products for market competitiveness and sustainability. Industry is invited to submit unsolicited proposals addressing three segments of: 1) market oriented opportunities, 2) strategic opportunities, or 3) implementation of commercial National priorities.

Registration with OSIP is required.

Channels can be run by all ESA programmes and partners to collected new ideas. Accordingly the channel seek ideas and collaboration on more general topics and have a open timeframe. Ideas are evaluated and the most novel and promising are selected for funding via an ESA implementation scheme.

OSIP forms part of a wider effort to support the future competitiveness of European space industry with early technology development, implemented through the Space Technology Strategy. Get involved at ideas.esa.int and help shape the future of space research.
