In brief

Challenge your students to create a picture just like an astronomer would and draw a pixelated image of the James Webb Space Telescope, by joining ESA’s Pixel your Webb challenge.

In this activity pupils are introduced to the concept of pixels. Using an image of the James Webb Space Telescope, pupils will create their own pixel artwork and discover how the number of pixels, or picture elements, impacts how well the image represents the original object.

Pixel your Webb

This is an adaptation to an existing ESA Teach with Space Resource, designed to help your pupils discover more about the James Webb Space Telescope mission, whilst learning about various art techniques using geometrical components to build a larger image. To provide further context to your students, use this resource in addition to the Pixel Your Space activity.
