Exercise 4: My weather forecast - continued

Page12

To predict the movements of the thermal boundary and of the weather fronts, meteorologists use supercomputers to calculate the changes from 1 to 6 days in advance.

My forecast:

You are invited to make two or more forecasts. First, make a forecast for your own local area and second, a forecast for another part of Europe.

Forecast for my local area

Make a forecast for the late afternoon of the same day (i.e. around 6pm), one for the next day at 10am, and one for 5 days ahead.

1. For your report, start by describing the weather system over your area. Then give a description of wind direction and speed, clouds, temperature, and precipitation . Do this for the afternoon, tomorrow morning, and 5 days from now.

Forecast for an area in another region or town of Europe (of your choice)

Make a forecast for the late afternoon of the same day (i.e. around 6pm), one for the next day at 10am, and one for 5 days ahead.

2. Start by describing the weather system over this region or town of Europe. Then give a description of wind direction and speed, clouds, temperature and precipitation. Do this for the afternoon, tomorrow morning, and 5 days from now.

Was your forecast right?

3. Follow the weather during today, tomorrow and 5 days ahead. How good was your forecast?

4. If the weather developed in another way, try to figure out what mistakes you made in your analysis.

There are thousands of useful weather websites on the internet. On the right of this page you will find links you can use to study the weather in Europe.
