To the left is an image of Messier 82 taken at visible wavelengths. To the right is a composite image of the same galaxy, taken at infrared wavelengths by the Spitzer Space Telescope. The three wavelength bands are coded in red (longest wavelength), green, and blue (shortest wavelengths).
