The return of sunspots during the winter months of 2009-2010. These data were taken using the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) instrument onboard SOHO.

The return of solar activity in late 2009 is captured by SOHO's EIT instrument. Active regions show up as bright spots. The Extreme ultraviolet Imaging (EIT) Telescope took these images at a wavelength of 284 nanometres, which corresponds to the wavelength of ionized iron (Fe XIV).
