This plaque stands beside the tree planted for ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer’s Cosmic Kiss mission to the International Space Station, at the European Astronaut Centre (EAC) in Cologne, Germany. It is part of a tradition at EAC, where each European astronaut’s journey to space is marked by a tree and accompanying sign—a symbolic gesture celebrating their achievements and connecting them to Earth before they venture beyond it.
