Code your mission to Mars | Teach with space PR56

12 DEC. 2022 Publicatiedatum 1979 Weergaven

In brief

In this set of activities, students will explore the characteristics of the surface of planet Mars and will learn how to navigate a planetary robotic vehicle on to it.

The resource focuses on coding and uses Open Roberta Lab, an online simulation tool. The tool supports simulation of many popular educational robotic platforms like LEGO Education EV3 and WeDo 2.0, BBC micro:bit, Calliope mini, mbot and others. Students will become familiar with the main characteristics of the Martian surface and then they will be guided to program the solution to different challenges of advancing difficulty.

Languages: English

Subject: Mathematics, Physics, Programming, Robotics

Age range: 8-12 years old

Keywords: programming, physics, robotics, mathematics, Mars, planetary exploration

Students will learn:

  • To learn the basic principles of structured programming

  • To observe satellite images of the surface of Mars and identify the basic characteristics of it

  • To identify the best travelling path for a planetary exploration vehicle

  • To learn the operation of sensors and how to use them to solve the challenges appointed

  • To use creativity to improve the solutions offered to challenges

This resource was developed in collaboration with ESERO Spain, within the frameworks of the ESA Education Robotics Working Group activities.
