Team 1019 – Stability of wet soap films

After a late night out in Bordeaux, we arose this morning at the unholy hour of seven o’clock. We cannot keep this up.

Today we had to test our experiment again, pad the corners and sort out all the syringing apparatus. The people from Novespace seem happy with our rack. We’re not using any electricity or mechanical stuff, so only had to worry about the water sealing. It was great to see the experiment finally on the plane.

We used the afternoon to carry out test runs. The challenge for us is to make our soap film within the time that the plane is in level flight, and then use the weightless phase purely for videoing the resulting foam structure. We’re getting confident now that we will be able to do this.

Tonight we’ll probably just chill out; the combination of the heat, humidity and early starts is taking its toll. It would be nice to go shopping to get some real food. Some beer would also go down well!

Tomorrow there are the final safety checks with the guys from Novespace and the French test flight centre, so we have some work to do yet. Luckily we have the party and the weekend to look forward to!
