Paolo opened a new window to the Station through stereoscopic eyes. While stereo vision floods the cinemas, the European astronaut used a novel, ESA-developed 3D camera to show unprecedented views of the International Space Station.
The Erasmus Recording Binocular 2 (ERB-2) was conceived by the Directorate of Human Spaceflight and developed by Cosine Research from Leiden, the Netherlands, and Techno System Development in Naples, Italy.
ERB-2 takes advantage of high-definition optics and advanced electronics to provide a vastly improved 3D video effect for mapping the Station. The almost-like-real 3D images increases our whole viewing experience and can also be used in supporting science operations.

Paolo Nespoli heads to Space Station on MagISStra mission
ESA PR 30-2010 ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli is on his way to the International Space Station with crewmates Dmitri Kondratyev and Catherine Coleman aboard their Soyuz spacecraft following liftoff from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 20:09:25 CET today.

ESA's astronaut Paolo Nespoli will be launched in a Soyuz TMA spacecraft from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on 15 December at 20:09 CET with Dmitri Kondratyev and Catherine Coleman for a challenging 6-month mission on the International Space Station (ISS) as members of Expeditions 26/27.
