Festive special of classic sitcom gets a hilarious space twist
Leading French TV production company Elephant Story has teamed up with the European Space Agency to create a special episode of the classic sitcom Fais Pas Ci, Fais Pas Ça.
Fais Pas Ci, Fais Pas Ça is a much-beloved French sitcom about two very different families, the unconventional Bouleys and their more traditional neighbours the Lepics. The show originally aired between 2007 and 2017, but since then has periodically returned to delight millions of viewers with seasonal specials. The latest of these, On va marcher sur la Lune, premiered on France Télévisions on 18 December 2024.
As the title suggests, this special episode has a space theme, which is where the European Space Agency (ESA) comes in. The storyline sees the parents of both families selected by ESA for a training programme that prepares civilians for a mission to the Moon. The two families take very different approaches to the challenges of astronaut selection process, with hilarious results.
ESA has a growing list of movie, TV, and video game productions where ESA experts have acted as technical consultants to ensure the authenticity of space scenes. French TV production company Elephant Story brought ESA on board right from the outset to help them develop this special episode of Fais Pas Ci, Fais Pas Ça.
Elephant Story benefitted from ESA’s knowledge and expertise at every stage, from expert feedback during the writing process to the provision of authentic props and even access to the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany, during filming. Additionally, former ESA astronaut Jean-François Clervoy shared his first-hand expertise on set.
