With its solar arrays integrated and key qualification reviews under way, Europe’s new ice-monitoring satellite, CRISTAL, is moving from assembly into the demanding test phase that will demonstrate its readiness for the rigours of launch and life in orbit. The photograph shows the satellite being checked that it fits correctly on its launch adapter – which is the component that secures the satellite to the rocket. The release mechanism was also tested to ensure that the satellite will separate from the rocket and injected into orbit.
