World's researchers prepare for a cosmic encounter
 
21 April 2009   The first International Academy of Astronautics Planetary Defence Conference is being held in Granada, Spain, on 27–30 April. Among the topics under discussion will be preparations for the near-Earth flyby of asteroid Apophis in 2029.

13 November 2008   The Planetary Defense Conference, with a strong focus on student participation, will be held in Europe for the first time during the week of April 27, 2009 in Granada, Spain.
Apophis Mission Design Competition: Results released
 
14 March 2008   The results of the Planetary Society Apophis Mission Design Competition were released on the 26th February 2008. First place went to the team led by SpaceWorks Engineering, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia. Both second and third places went to European teams: Deimos Space S.L. of Madrid, Spain, led the team winning second prize and the team that placed third was lead by EADS Astrium Ltd, United Kingdom. There were also several proposals submitted by students from around the world.
