ESA astronaut Frank De Winne safely back on Earth
 
1 December 2009   ESA PR 30-2009. The Soyuz TMA-15 reentry module landed safely in Kazakhstan at 13.15 local time (08.15 CET), bringing ESA astronaut Frank De Winne, Russian cosmonaut Roman Romanenko and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Robert Thirsk back to Earth.

My space mission is about to end. On 1 December, I will return to Earth with Bob Thirsk and Roman Romanenko aboard the Soyuz TMA-15 spacecraft. I also had also a chance for one more visit by a Space Shuttle crew, the third during my spaceflight.

As will have been apparent from my previous diary entries, there's not a moment to get bored here on the International Space Station. At the end of last month we said farewell to the unmanned Japanese cargo spacecraft HTV-1. Since then the Station has become even bigger.

First European commander of the International Space Station
 
11 October 2009   ESA astronaut Frank De Winne became the first European commander of the International Space Station this morning with the departure of Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka who had filled this role since April. De Winne is the first non-American and non-Russian to take on this role.
