Commercial User Segment and Navigation System Validation

The Commercial User Segment and Navigation System Validation Section (TEC-ESG) provides technical support and expertise in the fields of design, development and testing of pre-commercial and commercial ground (user/infrastructure) equipment. The section supports the implementation and testing of satellite navigation, telecom, and Earth observation systems falling within the terms of reference (TOR) of the Radio Frequency Systems Division
Responsibilities:

Navigation Applications
The section supports:

- GNSS (e.g. EGNOS and Galileo) Ground Segments Element (phase C/D) equipment design, procurement and testing: covering all technologies related to navigation receivers from RF to baseband processing, including signal processing, positioning and integrity algorithms, integration with other sensors, local augmentation, and integration with telecommunication systems and services

- In Orbit Tests and Validation of existing navigation systems (e.g. Galileo and EGNOS) with the management of the associated tools and test facilities
- testing and analysis in preparation to EGNOS and GAILEO Operational Service introduction

- GALILEO/EGNOS System validation tools procurement, testing and usage
- Support to the development of professional and commercial GNSS ground products through ESA's co-funded R&D programs (e.g. GSTP and NAVISP Element 2).
Earth Observation Applications
The Section supports to the development of professional and commercial Earth Observation ground products falling within the division’s TOR through ESA's co-funded R&D programs (e.g. GSTP and Incubed).
Telecom Applications
Support to the development of professional and commercial SatCom ground products falling within the division’s TOR through ESA's co-funded R&D programs (e.g. ARTES C&G and IAP).
Navigation Laboratory

The section, jointly with TEC-ESN, is in charge of the navigation laboratory, which represents both an engineering tool and a tests & measurement facility to support the work of ESA internal and external customers while performing tests, analysis and characterisation of navigation systems.
