In GSTP Element 2 an activity known as GENEVIS, with France, has successfully specified, developed, tested, validated and integrated Vision-Based Navigation (VBN) processing solutions on a space-grade processor for two scenarios: rendezvous and landing. As part of the activity, a reference scenario is being used to simulate rendezvous strategies typical for in-orbit servicing in GEO, and another scenario analyses descent and landing strategies on the lunar surface. For each case, the required navigation chains (image processing and navigation functions) were implemented, assembled and validated, with simulations and executions conducted in real-time on test benches. Each navigation chain was successfully ported on a space-grade computer processor unit and a flight campaign aboard a helicopter gathered data from real sensors and with flight dynamics actually representative of a lunar landing.
