Citizen science at ESA
Science has a problem. We need more eyes, ears and brainpower than professional scientists can ever contribute. Our interconnected world brings a solution in the form of 'citizen scientists' – volunteers who donate their time, expertise or even mobile phone power to advance scientific research.
Thanks to citizen scientists, we are improving our understanding of comets, monitoring space weather, verifying images from Earth observation satellites, and much more. But the benefits go both ways: we hope that by opening up ESA data and tools to the public, we are improving the openness of our work, increasing citizen engagement in scientific research, and building stronger connections between science and society.
