YPSat-1 presented to ESA-wide stakeholders and management
In brief
On the 17th of November, the YPSat-1 was presented to a group of ESA stakeholders and management in a first hardware review that sees the project successfully pass the first mechanical and thermal test campaigns. The purpose of this hardware review, held in the Mechanical Systems Laboratory at ESTEC, was not only to show the progress to the project stakeholders and supporters but also used as an opportunity for the YPSat-1 team to thank members of the ESA-wide community for their support throughout this project and to give them the opportunity to see the hardware up close.
In-depth
An audience formed of ESA stakeholders and management was present at this YPSat-1 hardware review held by the YPSat-1 project manager, Julien Krompholtz (TEC-QQM), leads of the YPSat-1 system engineering team, Filip Soukup (TEC-XT) and Sebastian Fix (SCI-PX), and YPSat-1 communications officer, Marie Deschamps (HRE-S).
The participants were able to see the YPSat-1 hardware in the clean room and hear from Julien about the latest status of the development and testing, most recently the mechanical and thermal test campaign successfully completed within the last month, as well as the future of the project and upcoming milestones. The participants were also given an in-depth presentation of the various subsystems and components of the satellite.
“It is inspiring to see the results of the talents of Young ESA displayed in this way,” said Torben Henriksen, ESA Director of Technology, Engineering and Quality and Head of ESTEC. “It has taken entrepreneurship, ingenuity and sustained hard work to reach this stage, much of it taking place during their own spare time. Many people from ESTEC and across ESA have pitched in to make this milestone possible.”
The meeting was held to showcase the impressive work done by the YPSat-1 team and to promote this special project, which sees the entire process of designing, building, and testing a satellite, all within the ESTEC premises, a rare occurrence in the present time. The support received by the YPSat-1 team from all of ESA departments and facilities since the start of this project has been of great importance to the entire team and, through this meeting, the team wanted to extend their gratitude to all stakeholders and recognize the efforts of all ESA staff who have contributed to the success of this project so far.
The YPSat-1 would also like to thank the Mechanical Systems Laboratory staff, in particular Stephane Roure (TEC-MTV), for their support throughout this project and for hosting this event. This was the first meeting of its kind within the YPSat-1 project and a future such review on a larger scale is planned to be held in June 2023.
